Known as the Leaders in Driver Education Since 1961, Irish School of Motoring – ISM provides driving lessons in all major licence categories for both private and professional drivers, from learners through to the most experienced drivers looking to upskill. Our team of over 200 Approved Driving Instructors provide driving lessons with the newest fleet of vehicles, seven days a week, throughout every county in Ireland.
Each year an incredible 30,000+ learner drivers learn to drive with ISM. We are a professional driver training provider for organisations of all types and sizes, from government agencies and multinationals through to both large and small Irish businesses. ISM Training Services supports both individuals and organisations with continuous skills development, leading to qualifications, certifications, upskilling, or vocational further training. We specialise in Transport & Logistics, Industrial & Warehousing, Working at Height, and Health & Safety Training, including Driving for Work. Our Forklift Training Centres are the largest purpose-built training centres in the country, providing Operator, Instructor and Supervisor Courses. We keep individuals and companies workforce skilled, compliant and operationally ready.
ISM’s Training Courses are delivered by highly experienced Instructors and Trainers within their area of industry expertise. The first person to pass the driving test in Ireland was taught by our Director and Founder, John Walsh in 1961. Today, Irish School of Motoring is a second-generation Irish family-owned business, and our team of driver education experts, trainers and recruitment consultants is headed by our Managing Director, Karl Walsh.
Our philosophy has been to build ISM Training & Recruitment as a natural extension of driver education, creating a complementary set of services that work seamlessly together. By integrating training and recruitment, we deliver a complete, end-to-end solution for individuals and employers alike.
We are proud of the fact that the majority of Ireland’s driving instructors have been trained by ISM! Karl’s interests continues to include driver education, specifically driving instructor training.

The Driving Test was introduced into Ireland. John and Pat Walsh take over ISM and start providing driving lessons.
ISM expands its fleet to 4 training cars, consisting of 2 Morris Minis, 1 Morris 1100 and a Ford Anglia.
ISM achieves an overall pass rate of 90%. The Driving School expands its offices to Ranelagh, Navan, Donaghmede, Tallaght, Dundrum, Terenure, Dun Laoghaire, Fairview, Fitzgibbon Street, Crumlin and Churchtown.
ISM expands its training services to provide professional training in Rigids, Artics, Minibuses, Coaches and Motorcycles.

Karl’s philosophy has been to create services and to build a team that complement each other. Karl’s interests continues to include driver education, specifically driving instructor training.
